Pitching my novel

I am knackered! Work and life are both busy, but I have been furiously getting myself ready for the event this Saturday, where I'm going to pitch my novel to agents.
Following the comments I got on my last post, and some research, I have come up with the following (with a lot of help from my lovely wife too!):
Can a young man mete out vengeance without losing his honour or his soul?
Beobrand embarks on a quest for revenge in 7th century Britain. On his journey he joins a group of warriors, but when they rape and murder a young woman, Beobrand questions the path he has chosen and vows to bring the men to justice.
What do you think?
Last chance to give me some comments! Any inputs much appreciated!

  1. Matthew....Good luck this weekend. Was going over old favorites on Twitter and ran across your comment about too many books and not enough time. I LOVE the first line! Other thoughts:

    Why does he seek revenge?
    Alternate wording for next part:
Joining a group of warriors on his journey, Beobrand begins to question the path he has chosen when his companions rape and murder a young woman. He vows to bring the men to justice. (Needs something more....how he will do it, what his next step, a question...something.)

Also, does his path to bring them to justice sidetrack him from his revenge or is it a second goal?

Just some thoughts. Feel free to message me on Twitter with any updates. Hope all goes well!

    1. Thanks for the comments, Tracey. I have some more stuff that I can add if the agent asks questions. The way I see it is that if they ask questions, then it is an opening to talk about the book and draw them in.

Fingers crossed. I'll add a post about the pitch day sometime soon.

  2. Hi Matthew,
Just joined you on Twitter and linked through. Sounds an exciting point you've reached. How was the agent experience? I think you're about 9 months ahead of me. I write about the US Civil War though I live in Sussex,
    kind regards,

    Richard

    1. Hi Richard,

It is great to hear from you. I will write up a post about the experience soon, but things have been pretty hectic at work, and I have a gig with my band at a festival this weekend, so I may not get to the blog post till next week.

Watch this space and I will post about it. :-)

I also owe at least one more post about my trip to Northumberland in September!

All the best and good luck with your writing.

      Matthew
